Keep fighting. Keep learning.
It gets very depressing when you feel stuck and not moving in your job. Like I have this job I took during the holidays since they needed help. It was some stint I did just so that I can have money and look like I did something so I can put on my resume. The gap might paint a bad light on me so thats why I took it. I'm an explorer so I like to explore any opportunities around me. I don't want to stay in one spot. I have itchy feet.
I actually discovered some useful things while I am underemployed with a job that I see no growth in. It's a small company, there's no way I can move around. They have no budget for me, they are already scared that the checks I'm cutting are getting high and we're not getting the payments or something on time. It's really all about looking at those big companies where they have a lot more resources to train and work with entry level workers. I'm here to learn and grow. I will do whatever it takes, trust me. Theres many people that have kids, settled, have other commitments.. well I'm here to work and have no life & I like to get absorbed into it. If I find the work boring however, then... I can't even bother lol.
Heres some things I've found and did:
I registered for free courses offered by my library! I was shocked that they offer these. It ranges from accounting, excel, programming, you name it! They also have basic courses to brush up, like grammar, speech, etc. Way awesome. Check out your local library's website if they offer these services.
Theres a website called ReferenceUSA - for you folks out there living in the USA.. check it out! Look at industries you want to work in, I wanted to look at headquarters and found a couple of companies I want to work. ITs a big database comprises of all companies in USA and you can narrow your search with what you prefer.
My plan is basically an office job and moving around departments. It's really the logical way.. I can't really leave companies so quickly and getting different careers.
IF all else fails, really, I wouldn't mind being an entrepreneur. It just takes a lot of dedication, money and time. The perks is that you don't need anyones validation of your value.
